Hierarchy/order relations in the noun phrase and the verb cluster

In this talk I will discuss the typology of hierarchy/order relations in four-element noun phrases (Cinque's (2005) interpretation of Greenberg's Universal 20) and compare them to the hiearchy/order relations in four-element verb clusters in Germanic. To a good first approximation they are identical, which suggests an identical treatment. This motivates - to my mind - a slightly more optimistic outlook on what verb clusters can tell us about universal grammar than seems to be present in Wurmbrand (2006).
